Is it possible to obtain discs from Dell for pre-installed software after your warranty has expired?  My hard drive crashed and my system didnt come with any discs to re-install Microsoft Office Basic.

Dell DataSafe Local Backup Runtime Error (cannot check for updates)

This evening, seemingly out of the blue, I got a pop-up C++ Runtime Error message on my XPS 14 (running Windows 7 Home Premium).

The message is as follows:

"Runtime Error!

Program:...I Data Safe Local Backup\Components\DSUpdate\DSUpdate.exe.

Abnormal program termination."

I am guessing the error was thrown when the program (Dell DataSafe Local Backup) tried to do an automatic update check, because if I open the program itself and manually navigate to the "Check for Updates" link, the same pop-up window with the same runtime error message appears. FYI, when I click the "okay" button on the runtime error pop-up after manually trying to start a check for updates, the program appears to make an attempt to look for software updates, with a "checking for updates" message appearing, but after it goes for a bit, an new pop-up box appears that says, "Unable to connect."

I have had the computer a little over two months, and this is the first I've seen this error. I did a Google search and also a search here on the Dell community site, and while I found a number of posts from 2009-2011 describing the exact same runtime error message, I didn't find any solutions.  The "unable to connect" message makes me wonder if there is an issue on the server (or wherever the program needs to go to try to find updates).

Anyone?

I forgot my administrator password on my Dell inspiron 15 3520, its a windows 8 and I have two cd's that came with the laptop.

  • drivers and utilities
  • application
Is there a way I can restore my computer without getting into windows, if not is there a way i can re install windows 8.
When I boot the  computer from CD/DVD and insert the Application CD I get:
PXE-E61: Media Test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE Rom.
Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key
When I boot from the Drivers and Utilities cd i get:
A RAMDISK is availiable in this boot cylce C:
It contains several Hard Drive setup tools. Please use these
tools only under the direction of Dell Support Staff.
I would just like to reinstall windows as it is still brand new and I do not have any information worth holding, could someone just give me the method of going about it through DOS commands? or whatever it is there when the drive letter and flashing cursor is...
Thank You

Where can I download Dell Datasafe Local Backup setup file?

After upgraded to Win7, I encountered the problem 'split failed' with Dell Datasafe Local Backup. I tried to manually update the program as someone suggested, but unfortunately the update program said that the program could not be located (I was wondering my system was x64 but still the local backup program was installed in 'Program Files (x86)' folder). Anyway, the update program indicated me to reinstall the program. However, I failed to find the setup file download, no matter in Dell website or through Google. Could somebody help here? Thanks in advance.

Is this a virus or Windows 7 Home Premium problem.

Just spent $150 on 'cleansing' yesterday.  Issue still here.

I have a 2 year old Inspiron One 22 with this pre-installation.  Microsoft 'said' to come here.

This past week, two- and four-way multidirectional arrows appear in a circle.  If I click on it, it disappears but re-appears almost immediately.

Different, singular arrows appear (without the circle) and point in ALL different directions.  The page also scrolls all over, quickly.

Thoughts, anyone?

Dell DataSafe Online files - unable to find my files

Hi, I recently had my Dell desktop PC crash at the same time as my subscription needed to be renewed. I renewed it by downloading an application on my sister's netbook so that I could access that information. It had been deactivated but said that my files would be kept for 30 days. So they should still be there. It shows on the home page that they are still there, but when I wanted to access the files to download some of them onto a flash drive, they do not show up on the link to access the files. Is this because I had to renew on another computer? Where are my files?

I plan to download them onto a new computer when I get one but still trying to decide what I want. In the meantime, I wanted to use some of the files I regularly used on a flash drive. PLEASE HELP!

I could not find any contact number or email on the Dell DataSafe Online website. There was a "contact us" link on the bottom of the page, but that was too confusing as to where to go from there when it went to the main Dell website. I found this forum today and am desperately hoping you can help. I had thought that saving my files online was a good idea in case something happened to my computer.

I have a new Dell N5510 laptop and am having problems with MS Office 2010 Word.  It keeps on showing an error and closing the program.

OS is 7 Home Premium w/ SP 1, 64-bit

The Office is new.  I purchased the key on-line from MS and uploaded the program.  Next I went to the Dell community site and uploaded the Office 2010.

The first time Word is opened it words until I enable editing of the document. Then Word recovers the document and asks if I want to save the template. Then it comes up with another error and closes the program.

Any ideas  what  is going on?  Office problem or Dell?

NOTE: Power point is working properly. Have not used the other apps yet.

Dell Backup & Recovery create Rescue Disk: It is showing error in the application and it is working in command prompt

Can't download factory installed softwares.

This is my first post, so apologies if this is not the best section for this question.

I have XPS M140 system, for which I wanted to make a backup for factory installed softwares. My computer only came with XP CD.

This is not about the regular driver downloads; this is about other factory installed softwares. I checked for similar questions, but the answers were incorrectly directed towards the drivers downloads.

Ok, I will try to be more descriptive in my question. If you log into your dell account and then to "My account", there is a sections called "My Software". Under which there is an option for "Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads)". Clicking on it will lead to a page where it asks you to register your system.

When I click on "Register System" I get the error message "service tag not supported" or absolutely nothing happens.

In fact not only in this place, anywhere within Dell If I try "Find my service tag" (using service tag scanning utility) it fails. If I manually enter, my service tag seem to be recognizable, I see all details about my computer. But for downloading Factory Installed Software I have go through that automatic service tag scan first, that's where I'm stuck.

I have tried doing this in IE6 and IE8 with no success. I also have Microsoft .net 3.5 framework too . I have never changed any hardware in my 3+ yrs old laptop.

I wonder if this service is only provided to new purchases? Somewhere I read only eligible system can download those, I am not even sure if my system is eligible or not. Forget the download part, I wonder why is that service tag scan failing to recognize my system??

Thanks !!

Replacement for DigitalPersona biometric software?

$
0
0

I have a Vostro 3550 that I bought in November. I learned to use the fingerprint reader and love it. I don't have to enter passwords! BUT, DigitalPersona discontinued support for the software and completely stepped out of the consumer market. They announced it in March, 2011:

"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications. In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after Mid-April of this year. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team"

This obviously sucks on many levels (i.e., why did Dell sell me software they knew was discontinued and didn't tell me?). However, I now have the problem that the fingerprint reader doesn't work with FireFox (I'm using FireFox 12) and the future is bleak for the fingerprint reader on my new laptop when Windows 8, an IE upgrade, etc. comes out.

I may have found possible replacements in RoboForm or Softex OmniPass but I haven't tried either yet. Has anyone else tried them or know of an alternative?

Specifically, I'm looking for a consumer software application that works with the Validity Sensors, Inc. reader. Validity Sensors lists applications that work with their readers as Acer Bio Protection, Bioscrypt Verisoft (may be a candidate but questionable download from HP), Cogent BioTrust (not consumer), DigitalPersona Personal (not!), and Softex OmniPass for Windows 7.

I hesitate to uninstall the DigitalPersona software because I've seen so many people on the net complaining that they can't download nor install it without major problems.

If anyone from Dell or any other users out there have any suggestions, advice, etc. please let me know.

The update asks for the installation CD.  Of course I don't have it as it was pre-installed on my computer Hybrid 140g.

Is this file on my hard drive someplace that I so far have not been able to find?

Is this an MS problem or a Dell problem or just MY problem?

Dell DataSafe Local Backup and Recovery Software

$

On 9/9th I have purchased and downloaded Dell DataSafe Local Backup and Recovery Software in to my Dell Inspiron 5521R. Before the premium version downloaded, I DW'd the trial version as it was said in MY DELL and, it checked my computer and given the green light to update to the premium version..

Consequently I purchased the premium version online by paying USD 39.90

1. Then I try to install DSL software it went halfway and a message appeared " INSTALATION WAS ABOTED BY THE USERE" which I did not do so. Then the dialog asked whether to uninstall it and I did so. Henceforth, nether software was installed nor backup was possible !

2. Consequently, I completely removed the 2 files and downloaded again it and tried to install. When the same dialog appeared whether to uninstall, I said no and prompted to proceed and the trial version was installed. It prompted me to enter the activation key and the premium version was activated.

Consequently, when I tried to backup my system followings were observed :

Part 1Create recovery media was inactive

Part 2 - Full system Back up was running for 1% for ever with a error dialog saying to try later !

Part 3 - Files and folder back up was possible.

This whole oration was entirely unacceptable as the backup was prompted by MY DELL. It diagnosed the machine and prompted to DW the trial version. The trial version diagnosed the machine and prompted the machine was ok for the premium version - that was money !

When I contacted for technical assistance from Dell Singapore where I bought the Laptop, they inform me I am out of the service area and to contact Dell India. I have my warranty till December 2013 and wonder why the purchased country asking to go back to some other place ?

At least they should have given me technical advise to ascertain what problem I have and, to solve it or refund my money. Neither thing is happened till now.

I am utterly disappointed with entire Dell for misleading customers to by software which some machines not supporting. It could have been prevented by their built in in software diagnoses rather prompting to proceed.

To conclude, I really blame Dell for this blunder and demand a refund for the purchased DataSafe Local Backup and Recovery Software. Upon your review I will submit my activation key to cancel it.

Please revert A.S.A.P
